The next Vijay blockbuster is gearing for release. ‘Velayudham,’ a product of director Jayam Raja is 80% complete. The film has actor Vijay as the hero with Genelia, Hansika Motwani, and Saranya Mohan as the lead ladies. Most of director’s films have oodles of family sentiment mixed with the right amount of comedy, great songs and beautiful locales.

Sources close to the film’s unit have revealed that the team will soon be heading to an undisclosed overseas location for shooting a couple of songs. They have also revealed that the post-production work is also being carried out simultaneously. The film which set off on a positive note post Vijay’s huge success in his ‘Kavalan’ will be released by mid-2011.

Post the success of ‘Kavalan’ there is a lot of expectation on Vijay and now with the actor signing films with directors Shankar and Mani Ratnam the fans of the actor are already in high spirits. Sources close to the director have revealed that this film is a superhero subject. This news will be a bonanza for all Vijay fans who would love to see their favorite star scaling multistoried buildings and rescuing damsels in distress.

The music for this film has been scored by Vijay Antony. We hope Vijay Antony repeats history with this film too. Sources close to the composer revealed that he has given his best shot in ‘Velayudham.’

VIJAY'S LATEST INTERVIEW ALL ABOUT HIS UPCOMING FLICK(VELAYUDHAM,NANBAN,PONNIYIN SELVAN)

Finally, Vijay is in news for all right reasons. In an exclusive interview, the soft-spoken Tamil actor shares his thoughts about his political moves and the 100-crore periodic film with Mani Ratnam

Suddenly, everything is shining bright for Vijay, after having had a rough patch in the last few years. After delivering a super-hit in Kaavalan, he has moved onto ace director Shankar’s project Nanban, the remake of Bollywood blockbuster Three Idiots. Then, the actor will join Mani Ratnam’s project, a periodic film.

On the political front, too, Vijay is making canny moves. Ilaya Thalapathy Vijay Makkal Iyakkam, a people's movement (as he prefers to call it), launched by the actor, has decided to back the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK)-led front in the coming  Assembly elections  in Tamil Nadu.  Film director and father of Vijay  SA  Chandrasekar called on Jayalalithaa and conveyed the decision last week. Over to Vijay.

QUE:-How do you look at the success of Kaavalan?

It must have been a huge relief.
Even before Bodyguard (the original) in Malayalam, Siddique wanted to start the project in Tamil with me in the lead, but we could not get going due to many factors, including my commitments to other projects. But it was taken up at an appropriate time which eventually proved a turning point in my career graph. The film projected me in a very different shade, and the audience lapped it up. Besides, the film has been appreciated  critically.

QUE:-The stunt sequences of your forthcoming film Velayudham are being talked about highly. What’s so special about them?

Tom Delmar, Hollywood’s top action and stunt choreographer, has been roped in to direct some breath-taking stunt sequences, like atop a speeding train at Vizag. It will certainly be one of its kind, with a cutting-edge effect. The scene will feature Abhimanyu Singh and I.
We hear that Hansika Motwani, your co-star in the film, has tweeted that you are her sweetest friend ever.

QUE:-Being a good friend of your co-star is quite natural, especially in our profession. What else can I say?

After Shankar’s Namban, you will move onto Mani Ratnam’s project, we hear.
Yes, I will. It’s a privilege to have been offered opportunities to work in a film made by Shankar and by Mani Rathnam on a row.  Trust me, it is a dream come true for me to associate myself with these two legendary directors.

QUE:-Tell us about Mani’s project.

Ponniyan Selvan, as the film is tentatively titled, will be made simultaneously in Tamil and Telugu, on a budget of Rs 100 crore.  The pre-production work is on and the film is expected to roll in September/October. I will be playing a character called Arulmozhi Varman, who later becomes Raja Raja Chola. The film is based on one of the most popular novels in Tamil, written by Kalki Krishnamurthi, the celebrated writer. It’s a classic.

Arya and Mahesh Babu are said to be playing other roles.
I can’t comment on the cats and the crew. It ‘s the director’s prerogative.
Your first political meeting at Nagapattinam turned out to be a filmy affair.
The fact remains that I continue to be an actor and hence such a flavor is required.
People think you have opted to collaborate with Jaya mainly because you were allegedly harassed endlessly by the ruling DMK.

It is up to people to interpret the way they want. As far as my political decisions are concerned, I make my moves in accordance with my own ideologies and perceptions, taking into account the prevailing trends. Do you think I would act and react to the whims and fancies of others around? More so, I am not the kind of person who gets intimidated by anyone – if they are in power or not. My association with the AIADMK chief is purely personal. Let me tell you I have never intended to acquire mileage out of that relationship.

Harris Jayaraj talks all about Nanban’s music

Nanban is the remake of the Hindi smash hit 3 Idiots. This has raised doubts if the music of this film will be imported from the original version. Clarifying such doubts, Harris Jayraj has said that he prefers to compose fresh music for all his films and has done so in Nanban too.

The music director added that copying music from other films is not his forte.

Harris also predicted that Nanban’s tunes will be the talk of the town once the audio releases.

The music director also made it clear that he was never into remix and will not opt for it in future too.

Vijay's support is fully for AIADMK

Proving media reports true, ‘Ilaya Thalapathi’ Vijay on Sunday extended the support of his Makkal Iyakkam to the main opposition AIADMK in the April 13 elections to the Tamil Nadu Assembly.

Popular film director and father of Vijay, S A Chandrasekar, called on AIADMK general secretary J Jayalalithaa at a hotel in Tiruchi on Sunday afternoon and informed her about the decision.

Chandrasekar, closeted with the former Chief Minister for about 20 minutes at Sangam Hotel in Tiruchi, said the Iyakkam favoured political change in the State to ensure that it develops equitably.

An AIADMK press release said the party general secretary thanked Chandrasekar and Vijay for their support. Speaking to reporters later, Chandrasekar said he will soon commence his campaign in support of the AIADMK alliance.

Shankar’s promise to Vijay

Nanban the Tamil remake of Three Idiots is proceeding at a steady phase and director Shankar has expressed his satisfaction in the way the film is shaping up. Ilaya Thalapathy Vijay, who is teaming up with Shankar for the first time, will be seen with Jiiva, Srikanth and Sathyaraj with Ileana as his love interest.

On the songs of Nanban, Shankar is reportedly promised Vijay that it would satisfy all his fans in all aspects. According to Shankar, Vijay’s huge fan base would be very happy and delighted with the songs that would be picturized on their icon.

BIG PARTNERSHIPS WHICH MISSED TAMIL CINEMA

Vijay - Ameer
Director Ameer has made meaningful movies ever since his debut Mounam Pesiyathey. When he approached the commercial king Vijay for Paruthiveeran, we were hoping for an extravagant rural film with eagerness to see Vijay in a new avatar. Sadly, Vijay turned down the offer fearing that the movie might not do well due to lack of commercial elements and it finally fell on Karthi's lap and he delighted the audience as much as Vijay would have. Needless to remind, the movie was a super hit.

NANBAN-DIWALI BONANZA

Shankar is on schedule. He is making brisk progress on his 3 Idiots remakeNanban. The second schedule of the film is over in Dehradun.

Nanban  has Vijay, Ileana, Jiiva , Srikanth, Sathyaraj, Sathyan and SJ Surayah , nearly 35 per cent of the film is complete with this schedule. Harris Jayaraj has already completed three out of the six songs in the album. Manoj Paramahams is the cinematographer.

Shankar wrote on his online site: "We have finished all the college exterior scenes in our 2nd schedule in Dehradun. It's a visually wonderful campus. It is very interesting & new experience for me to work with Vijay, Sathyaraj, Ileana and almost every actor for the first time. Vijay-Sathyaraj combo is fresh and fantastic. As friends, Vijay, Jeeva and Srikanth's 'Physics' & 'Chemistry' is working very well, behind the camera too. all of them have started living in their roles. I'm enjoying working in Nanban which is completely contrast from Endhiran in all aspects

In the next three months Shankar will be completing the shoot and all songs for Nanban. The film produced by Gemini Film Circuit will be a Diwali 2011 release.

Madhan karky Celebrating his 25th song With 'Nanban'

For sure, Madhan Karky is sure to make his realms in Tamil film industry now. The young and happening lyricist enthralled us with his brooding lyrics in Superstar Rajnikanth’s ‘Endhiran’ and now he is joining hands with Shankar again for the film ‘Nanban’. This time, he has an additional task to be carried out – writing dialogues along with Shankar.

Madhan Karky has said that he has completed working on lyrics for ‘Nanban’, which completes 25 songs of his career now. His outstanding lyrics for the songs and penchant taste for delivering some new-dimensional traits has become his ‘USP’.

We wish Madhan that he comes up with more splendid songs in years to come…

Ponniyin Selvan to be on par with Sholay?

The cult hit Sholay is much remembered for its excellent storytelling and big star cast that consisted of Dharmendra, Amitabh Bachchan, Hema Malini, Jaya Bachchan, Sanjeev Kumar, Amjad Khan and Mac Mohan among several others. Dharmendra and Amitabh Bachchan were gaining fame at that time and Sholay boosted their image even more and the actors went on to give several more hits in their career later. Looks like Mani Ratnam is going to pull a casting coup and make a cult film like Sholay with Ponniyin Selvan.

Here we bring to you the latest about the film. It is confirmed that Vijay will be playing the role of Vallavaraiyan Vandiyadevan and Mahesh Babu will play Aditya Karikalan. The next slot to be filled was the character of the fearless fighter Periya Pazhuvettaraiyar who needs to look tall, strong and be able to wield several weapons and fight with élan. This character will be essayed by none other than veteran Sathyaraj who has the looks and also is experienced with aspects of weapon fighting. There was news that Vikram is not a part of the project but it is confirmed that Vikram is indeed playing a very important role in this film and that has not be revealed until now. Apart from this stellar cast, there is seasoned artist Nasser who has a very meaty role.

When quizzed about the heroine, we heard the Anushka is on board for sure and apart from that the director is hunting for two heroines who can dance, emote and look beautiful - in short, someone like Shobana. The hunt is on and we hear it might even be new comers and not only existing heroines. With such exciting news surfacing every day, Mani Ratnam is definitely making us all crave for the film.

WHO IS THE NEXT SUPERSTAR??-THAT IS VIJAY

VIJAY

Vijay or ‘Ilaya Thalapathi’ as he is lovingly called by his adoring fans is an established star in his own right and one of the stalwarts of the industry. He is Superstar material simply because he does not blindly emulate the original Superstar and brings his own particular style to his portrayals. The man is charismatic, has screen presence, fantastic voice modulation, can totally rock a fight sequence, shake a leg with the best of them, and romance the pants off his heroines. And he sings pretty decently. In movies like “Gilli” and “Pokkiri”, he managed to find his groove and a permanent place in the hearts of the audiences.

The promising actor has faced his share of problems from a string of flops to clashes with political head honchos. But he has made a strong comeback with his latest “Kaavalan” which has been declared a smash hit and also won him critical acclaim for his restrained performance. Here’s hoping he picks his scripts with a little more care and makes great films that will do the industry proud.

A.R. Rahman confirmed officially for Manirathnam’s project

Over the past couple of months, it has been a never-ending news about Manirathnam’s upcoming movie ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ that is based on the novel with the same name authored by veteran writer Kalki. The bilingual movie starring Vijay, Arya and Mahesh Babu in lead roles will be made simultaneously in Tamil and Telugu.
There were lots of speculations that A.R. Rahman might not work with Manirathnam as he is occupied with more Hindi and International projects. Additionally, there were some stories published in leading newspapers that Maestro Ilayaraja and Manirathnam will work together for this historical project.

But now, it has been confirmed by the closer sources of Manirathnam that it will be A.R. Rahman working on this film. Since, ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ is going to be an international project produced at a big cost, the producers have felt that ‘A.R. Rahman’ factor will help for the film’s success to a greater magnitude.

East meets West in Velayudham

It has been a wonderful time for Ilaya Thalapathi post his ‘Kavalan’. The film which did a wonderful round at the box office is still attracting the younger and family crowd alike. Right now the actor is busy shooting for ‘Velayudham’ which sees triple heroines in Genelia, Hansika Motwani and Saranya Mohan.

A source close to the movie circles has revealed that director ‘Jayam’ Raja has roped in Hollywood stunt choreographer Tom Delmar for planning the stunt shots for Vijay. The ‘Kavalan’ star, who does a good job flexing his muscles is sure to have a tough schedule working under Tom for ‘Velayudham’.

With ‘Velayudham’, the Hindi blockbuster ‘3 Idiots’ remake ‘Nanban’ as well as Mani Rathnam’s ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ under his collar Vijay sure is one busy bee flying from one schedule to another. Despite facing problems prior to releasing ‘Kavalan’ the actor has proved that he can do more than just delivering punch dialogues and ‘kuthupattu’. You will sure agree with us if you have seen ‘Kavalan’ where the actor won hearts with his sober and mature portrayal.

With the success of ‘Kavalan’ the expectation is running high on Vijay but the actor has been his usual self – cool and composed.

There is news doing the rounds that ‘Velayudham’ will be released on Ilaya Thalapathi’s birthday which falls in July. Music director Vijay Antony is composing music for ‘Velayudham’, so we sure can expect some soul soothing melodies and a couple of fast numbers to please the front benchers too.

With a good director, a young cast ensamble and a music director who has an appeal with the masses we sure can expect ‘Velayudham’ to work wonders with the audience!!!

Actor Srikanth is sporting a new look in Nanban

Actor Srikanth is in an extremely important phase in his career and needless to say, he’s taking it seriously. He has been exercising regularly and has lost several kilos to look the part of a college student for his forthcoming film with Shankar, Nanban.

Talking from the film’s sets in Dehradhun, Srikanth says, “Nanban, the remake of 3 idiots, is a big project and has actors like Vijay, Sathyaraj and Jiiva in it. The film will certainly give me a new lease of life in Kollywood. Director Shankar has given me a golden opportunity on a platter and I want to make full use of it.”

The unit is currently shooting the campus scenes in the Forest Reserve Institute (FRI). “The FRI houses several beautiful monuments that were built in 1920. This place looks so much like London!” he says and adds, “Vijay, Jiiva and I will sport two different looks in the film. Shankar did all the homework himself and he’s come out with mind-blowing ideas.”

He continues, “For the part of a college student, I’ve lost several kilos by dieting and hitting the gym regularly. Shankar was clear that I should look very young. But he stressed that I shouldn’t look tired on screen due to the long workout sessions. When I finally saw the outcome in pictures, I was very happy. This is exactly how I look on my driving license! For my role as a wildlife photographer, I will sport a different look.”

    Srikanth is glad that he’s
got to work with a wonderful team. “I can’t stop gushing about Shankar’s sense of humour. He’s got a serious face but manages to makes us laugh so much! And, Vijay and Jiiva are such wonderful co-stars. I was supposed to work with Jiiva in Drohi, but it somehow didn’t happen. Nanban’s team is very energetic.”

Srikanth celebrated his birthday recently on the sets of Nanban. “Sentimentally, I think shooting on my birthday brings me luck. It was sweet of Shankar and the team to bring in a birthday cake for me. However, I was a little low because I was away from my family and my son, who also celebrated his birthday on the same day!”

On a signing off note, he says, “We’re currently gearing up to shoot the song, All is well…. Though the catch-phrase is the
same, Harris sir has come out with a different tune. Shobi master is choreographing the number and Manoj is handling the camera. This song will have Shankar’s touch!”

VELAYUDHAM INTRODUCTION SCENE

When nothing is revealed about Vijay’s ‘Velayudham’, we take a front leap bringing sensational news about his introduction shot in this movie. Guess what could be his introduction scene. It’s not too heroic, but quite a hilarious one.
It seems that Vijay pulls down the chain in a running train and is held by the railway police and Ticket Collector. He is asked whether to pay the fine or get detrained at the next station. Apparently, his folks from the same town pick out more money than the actual fine cost and beg the ticket collector not to leave him back to their town.
Hah! Very funny, isn’t?

VIJAY IN NANBAN-ALL IZZ WELL

Ilaya Thalapathy Vijay is a thrilled man these days. As first reported by this newspaper, Vijay will be a part of Shankar’s Tamil remake of the Bollywood hit 3 Idiots titled Nanban. The Vettaikkaran star has joined the ensemble cast of Jiiva, Srikanth, Sathyaraj Ileana and Anuya in Dehradun where the next schedule of the much-hyped project has commenced. It’s a significant film in Vijay’s career, one of the reasons being that his long-cherished dream of acting in a Shankar film has come true. Interestingly, Shankar was an associate of Vijay’s father S.A. Chandrashekar in several films, and his mother Shoba Chandrashekar’s debut directorial venture, with an almost similar title, Nanbargal.
Since the film had faced several hiccups before its start, sources said that symbolically Shankar began the shooting with the song ‘All izz Well,’ composed by Harris Jayaraj, which was also part of the original version. Speaking to this newspaper from the famous Forest Research Institute in Dehradun, an elated Vijay says “I am really excited to work with Shankar!” Asked about whether he had really undergone a makeover, including a stylish hairdo, he evades diplomatically, “I am not supposed to speak”. Sources say that our mass hero looks the same as usual and there is no significant change in his hairstyle. But the same source adds that Vijay might go in for a beard for the later schedules, which are planned at Ladakh. Meanwhile, Vijay’s next offering, Pagalavan, with a revolutionary theme, will be with controversial director Seeman and is likely to commence after the state elections.
