2011 Diwali (October 26) is exactly two months away, but Kollywood big stars and producers are trying to lock the date.
It is going to be a cracker of a Diwali as some of the biggest films have been lined up for the festival of lights.
Diwali after Pongal is the second biggest festival in Tamil Nadu. There is always a 10 % additional opening for a biggie during the festival season.
And for any star worth his box-office salt, a Diwali release is prestigious.
Ilayathalapathy Vijay will announce officially in Madurai at the audio launch of his M Raja directed Velayudham on Sunday (Aug 28) that the film will be a Diwali treat for his fans!
Producer Udhayanidhi Stalin of Red Giants has announced through Twitter that his eagerly awaited Suriya starrer 7Aum Arivu directed by AR Murgadoss will hit the screens worldwide on Diwali day.
STR has also announced that his Dharani directed Dabangg remake Osthi is a “confirmed Diwali 2011 release”, and post-production work has started on the film in Chennai.
Ace director Selvaraghavan through Twitter had conducted poll among his followers, to select a date for the release of his Dhanush starrer Mayakkam Enna. Selva now says the film is confirmed for Diwali.
As per trade sources Vishal’s Prabhu Deva directed Vedi is also looking for a Diwali day release.
Concludes top distributor and exhibitor Tiruppur Subramaniyam : “ It is not possible to release five big hero films for Diwali. Where are the theatres to screen them? Today a big film releases in 350 plus
screens during festival season in Tamil Nadu, to get an opening. I would say only two biggies can be accommodated for Diwali in a state where only 700 screens are good for releasing new films.”
