VELAYUDHAM MOVIE RELEASE ON AUGUST 31

It is still a suspense for the trade in Tamil Nadu, but distributors in Kerala have announced release dates for Velayudham !


Meanwhile Shibu of Thameens, Kerala's leading distributor of Tamil films has clearly told the trade that Velayudhamwill release on August 31, Ramzan day in nearly 100 screens in Kerala.

As per trade, if the film releases on August 31, it will have a dream opening for 10 days between Ramzan second biggest festival for movies and Onam the biggest festival in Kerala falling on September 8.

Says Shibu: "I have told Vijay sir and Ravi sir ( producer Aascar Ravichandran), that it is a dream date and we should not miss it."

Vijay's Role in Seeman's Film

Vijay’s characterization in most of his previous films doesn’t delineate him in a perfect profession. Be his evergreen hit movie ‘Ghilli’ to his latest film ‘Kavalan’, these movies have delineated him as a jobless youngster, but as the saviour of masses.

Seeman’s upcoming film ‘Pagalavan’ has a different character for Vijay, which of course is something new and unexpected from him. Yes, the actor will be playing the role of a doctor. Earlier it was mentioned that the film has been dropped as Vijay was linked with the projects of A.R. Murugadoss and Gautham Menon.

But now we hear that Seeman has made some changes to the script and will soon start shooting for the film once done with ‘Velayudham’ and ‘Nanban’.

It is now confirmed that Vijay will be directed by Gautham Menon in the year 2012 and he will use the Thuppariyum Anand script that he had approached Ajith with. This film will be shot mainly in foreign countries; therefore, Gautham will require a foreign actress to play the heroine.

With Amy Jackson playing Trisha’s role in the Hindi version of Vinnaithaandi Varuvaya, Gautham, who is directing the movie, has decided to cast her opposite the Ilayathalapathy, sources report.

A makeover for Vijay?

Yes, you read it right. Although Ilaya Thalapathi Vijay is famous for rarely donning new looks or trying out different styles, it is said that the actor considered trying out a new avatar for his look in Shankar's multi-starrer, 'Nanban'.

However, he was unable to proceed with this new hairstyle due to his commitment to Jayam Raja's 'Velayudham' that is all geared up for an August release. This film is a commercial action-masala entertainer and sees Vijay opposite Hansika Motwani, with Genelia playing a television reporter. It showcases how a commoner is forced to don the role of a superhero to save humanity and his own family.

This look is said to have been a cool and funky one and the trial seemed to have impressed the whole crew, but Ilaya Thalapathi couldn't continue with it. However, we must note that Jiiva sports a whole-new-look for 'Nanban', with long kurta pajamas, hands filled with finger rings to each please a God and what not.

Who can ever forget the kind of changes Shankar brings in the look of each star for his films? What if Vijay couldn't sport a makeover through his hair style, through his wardrobe makeover, right from a backpack to some handsome young t-shirts, we can already see a young avatar of Ilaya Thalapathi from the pictures of 'Nanban', true to his role as a college student in this film.

Aascar Films To Distribute Velayudham Directly?

Aascar Films V Ravichandran, the producer of Vijay's Velayudham has decided to release it directly.

The entire shoot of the film is over, except for a song which will be shot in a foreign location.

The budget of Velayudham which was initially said to be Rs 35 Crore has gone haywire. Now the film when it reaches the theatres will cost Rs 45 Crore due to various factors like more number of shooting days, production delays and increased special effects and graphics cost.

The film has been sold only Indian domestic only Kerala and Karnataka.

No distributor in TN is willing to touch it due to high cost. There are no big buyers in Tamil cinema after the recent political change of guard. 

The best way out for Aascar films is to release directly to the theatres , on MG or deposit basis. Aascar Ravi has done it successfully when he made biggies like Dasavatharam and Anniyan.

If all goes well, Vijay fans can look forward to Velayudham release in the last week of August.

‎'Veluyudham' overshoots budget

Vijay's upcoming film directed by Jayam Raja is in the post-production stages and is gearing up for a music release and finally the grand release of the film that is scheduled to take place in August. The film has a host of stars with Vijay donning a superhero's cap for the first time in his film career. While Hansika Motwani will play Vijay's love interest in this film, Genelia plays a television reporter and Saranya Mohan plays Vijay's sister.

A lot has been revealed and discussed about this upcoming Vijay film much ahead of its release which has steeped the interests of fans and music lovers across the state alike. The film has all the ingredients of a Vijay film all inclusive of the "kuthu" songs, romance, stunts, as well as a lavish dose of comedy (mind you with Santhanam on board) which is sure to have the audience in splits.

Sources close to the film's team revealed that the film has hair-raising stunts, what with technicians from overseas being roped in for stunt choreography.

'Velayudham' is being made under the Aascar Ravi Chandran banner. The film which was initially decided to be made with a budget of around 35 crores has now overshot the budget and has hit a high 45 crores, what with a lot of money spent on CG and songs. We hope audience too get their penny's worth seeing the film.

The film's producer is now in talks with theatre owners directly instead of finding distributors to distribute the film in the state. 'Velayudham,' apart from seeing a wide release in Tamil Nadu will also release in Kerala in nearly 90 theatres with "Ilaya Thalapathi" having quite a lot of fans in god's own country too!

PRANEETHA OPPOSITE VIJAY FOR MURUGADOSS FILM?

Luck seems to be working overtime for Pranitha, the 'Udhayan' heroine. For the actress from Karnataka is showing signs of occupying a place in the A-list heroines of Tamil cinema, with a couple of promising projects blinking at her.

We already have sources claiming that she will be the female lead of 'Saguni', the forthcoming film of hot and happening hero Karthi Sivakumar. Now we learn that might get to play the heroine of Vijay as well.

"Pranitha is one of the few names considered to play Vijay's love interest in a movie to be directed by A R Murugadoss. Chances are high for her to sign the project," say sources close to the development.

Already a popular face in Sandalwood, the actress stepped in to Tamil cinema with the recently-released 'Udhayan', an Arulnidhi-starrer. "I am ready to take up challenging offers from Kollywood," she said earlier. And her dream is coming true now, we must say.

hot property and distributors and exhibitors have
been evincing keen interest and waiting to see the
trailers. Vijay Antony's music has come good
and it would be launched in a gala affair, it is said.
Says Genelia, one of the heroines, 'to share the
screen with Vijay after Sachien is a boon for me.
He is a big actor but still very humble. I play a
journalist and all has come good'.

Vijay Becomes Gautham Menon's 'Thuppariyum Anand' Now???

Nearly before a year, Gautham Vasudev Menon was supposed to wield megaphone Ajith Kumar’s 49th film under the banner of Sivaji Productions. But it didn’t take off merely because the filmmaker delayed with his script works. Apparently they parted ways that lead to many rumors that Suriya will be the next option.

But now Gautham Menon seems to have zeroed down on Vijay and it looks like he will play the role of detective officer unraveling murder mystery in the backdrops of London. It is evident that Gautham Menon was smug-bitten by the latest version of Sherlock Holmes starring Robert Downey Jr in lead role.

A R Rahman will score music and Manoj Paramahamsa along with art director has already finalized the locations in Chennai and London.

VIJAY IN DEMAND

After Shankar, Mani and Murugadoss, it’s Gautham’s turn to sign on the Ilayathalapathy

The Ilayathalapathy seems to be the hottest actor in Kollywood at the moment, with every director worth his salt wanting to work with him. The latest filmmaker to join the list is Gautham Menon, who is reportedly touted to work on a project with him once he’s done with his current assignments. 


“Yes, the Gautham-Vijay project is likely to happen after they finish their ongoing projects,” says a source, “If it does, then it’s a casting coup of sorts in Kollywood and is an indication that Vijay has indeed broken away from his routine mass masala type of flicks that failed at the BO last year.” Sample this: the actor, whose Raja-directed Velayudham is yet to hit the screens, is currently working with Shankar on the Tamil remake of 3 idiots and is then said to be starting work on a project with A R Murugadoss. 


And then there’s Mani Ratnam hovering as well! It’s a well-known fact that Vijay was supposed to work with the ace filmmaker in his Ponniyin Selvan, which got shelved. We understand that the actor had verbally agreed to do a film with Mani in the near future. 


Apart from this, there’s the Seeman-directed tentatively-titled Pagalavan about which there has been no news for a while.
The Ilayathapathy seems to have understood the importance of working with established directors in the industry. While his previous flicks that didn’t do well at the box office (Vettaikaran, Sura for instance) were with relatively new directors, all the films that are on the horizon currently are with some of the biggest filmmakers in the industry. 


When CT contacted Gautham Menon, who is currently busy with two films, about the Vijay film, he said, “I cannot reveal anything right now.”

Gautham Menon's new hero is Vijay!

Vijay is all set to do a film with Gautham Menon, the maker of memorable movies like Kaakha Kaakha, Vaaranam Aayiram, and VTV. The star is currently busy with Nanban. Velayudham is also being readied for release. When he heard Gautham Menon's script he was  floored and immediately agreed to be a part of the project once he wraps up work on pending projects.

Gautham Menon felt that the role was tailor - made for someone of Vijay's talents and he was delighted when he accepted. The ace director will be going ahead with his next project with Jiiva which is slated to commence in August. And when that is done he will begin filming Vijay's film.

Gautham has wanted to work with Vijay for the longest time but due to various reasons nothing materialized. But this time around everything worked out perfectly and it will be very exciting to see what this dynamic duo will be serving up for Tamil cinema fans.

Nanban Releases for Christmas or Pongal?

The shooting of Nanban is going forward at jet-speed as the producers are sticking to the special occasions of Christmas or Pongal to release the film. Unlike his previous films, Shankar is not willing to take any breaks between the schedules as the dialogues and script works were completed during pre-production phase itself.

Another reason behind the fast-process of shooting is because actors Vijay, Jiiva, and Ileana cannot afford to give long call sheet due to their other commitments. Soon after finishing this film, Vijay will start shooting for AR Murugadoss’s project while Jiiva and Ileana have multiple projects in hand.

It is worth mentioning the film will have 109 scenes amongst which most of them are new and different from 3 Idiots.

According to the sources, the entire film, including post production works, is likely to wrapped up by end of November.

Vijay at '3 Idiots' Climax Location For Velayudham Shooting

Although Ladakh was far-famed for its celestial splendor, it became the favorite holiday destination after the release of Aamir Khan’s ‘3 Idiots’. The beautiful backdrop of steam and snow caps wowed the spectators and soon many films were shot there including Selvaraghavan’s untitled film that was shelved halfway (Vikram and Swathi).

Now Ilayathalapathy Vijay has opted to shoot a song sequence for his upcoming film ‘Velayudham’ with the same backdrops.

With talkie portions of the film already completed, the makers are busy now shooting the songs. It is worth mentioning that the climax of ‘Nanban’ has been shot at Andaman Islands.

GENELIA'S LATEST TALK ABOUT VELAYUDHAM

When asked Genelia that why she is not frequently seen in Tamil films, she said, “It is not like that. After completing Utthamaputhiran, the shooting of Velayudham commenced. The shooting of this film is going on.

About Velayudham, I liked the story very much when Jayam Raja narrated the story to me. At the same time I doubted that whether it would be possible for me to do the TV journalist role given to me. But Raja sir encouraged me by saying that this role is tailor made for me and I can do it. The role is very powerful. My role is equivalent to the role of the hero Vijay. I am not boasting. You can understand this once you see the film.

Hansika is another heroine of this film. She happens to be my good friend. She is now one of the top heroines in Tamil industry. She is acting in her role and I am acting in my role. There is no sequence in this film where we both clash. I have donned the role of a city girl while she has donned the role of a village girl. As far as Velayudham is concerned, we both have enough scope for acting. Regarding my experience about pairing with Vijay, I should say that he is a calm person. This is my second film with him. Vijay has not changed a bit. He is like the same person when I acted with him in Sachin. It is a good experience acting with him. His wife Sangeetha and his son Sanjay are very friendly with me. I am very happy because of this.”

Vijay With Gautham Menon And AR Rahman

It looks like Vijay's career is shaping up on its best now. Having made some blunders in the past, the actor has now decided to work with promising filmmakers. Following Shankar's 'Nanban', the actor will join hands with A.R. Murugadoss for a project that will be produced by Vijay's home banner in collaboration with Fox Star Studios.


The latest we hear is that the actor has discussed some projects with Gautham Vasudev Menon earlier in time and is now ready to work with him. Incisively, if what he heard from the closer sources is believed to be true , then the film will be produced by Gautham Menon’s home banner Photon Kathaas Factory, which will have his most-loved technicians A.R. Rahman, Manoj Paramahamsa, Thamarai and Anthony in the crew. 

DEEPIKA PADUKONE TO PAIR OPPOSITE ILAYATHALAPATHY VIJAY

Deepika Padukone is very keen to start her account in Kollywood. She was on cloud nine when she bagged Rana opposite none other than Superstar Rajinikanth. 

To her bad luck, the Superstar was hospitalized on the first day of the film's shooting (April 29) and thereafter left for Singapore to get his health back in order. Technically, Deepika has barely shot for Rana, says a source, adding, She is eagerly awaiting news on Rajini sir's well-being so that she can resume shooting with him.'' 

Even as she waits for news on the Rana front, here comes another interesting bit of information. 

One hears that the long-legged beauty may romance Vijay in A R Murugadoss's next film that is likely to go on floors later this year. Our trade source in Kollywood insists that Deepika has shown a keen interest in the Murugadoss project. Earlier, it was being suggested that Sonam Kapoor is also one of the girls who has been shortlisted for this project. However, Sonam told CT that she had not received an offer. And at that point, Deepika was ruled out because her dates were committed to Rana. 

However, now that there have been some date changes on the Rana front, Deepika may be in a position to do a second Tamil film as well. Who better than Murugadoss to helm the project?

Haniska Motwani has said that no one has praised her like Vijay had done. During the shooting of Velayudham, a song sequence was picturised on the lead pair recently. It was during this song sequence that Vijay noticed her facial expressions during the shoot.

The Ilayathalapathy had apparently told Hansika that he was watching her performance all through the dance and was noting her facial expressions. The star had also told her that the audiences would be glued to her facial expressions rather than his dance, while watching this particular song in the theaters. The actress is naturally happy to have received such a compliment for an actor who is known for his excellent dancing skills.

Ilayathalapathy from his 51st movie has changed his career path by experimenting on different genre and doing projects with established directors which never happened in his career.

And now ,its happy news for all,its now confirmed that Ilayathalapathy Vijay is joining hands with Director A.R.Murugadoss for his 54th venture . Ilayathalapathy initially heard a one liner and then now finalized this project after hearing the complete story which satisfied his expectations.

Velayudham climax shooting now in Kochi

Vijay completed the climax of hisVelayudham in a stadium in Kochi.

A huge crowd assembled at the stadium as spectators for this particular climax shoot.

According to director Raja: “It will be one of the highlights of the film. "Velayudhamis making brisk progress and has some daring action scenes.Two more songs remain to be shot, which will be done in a foreign and one Indian location.
The audio launch of the film which has music by Vijay Antony will take place soon."

VELAYUDHAM AUDIO LAUNCH SOON

Ilayathalapathy Vijay's 'Velayudham' and thala Ajith's 'Mankatha' can rightfully be termed as two biggies Tamil cinema is eagerly awaiting to witness this August, and every news from these two fronts, is raising expectations among fans and audience.
 
'Velayudham' that stars Vijay, Hansika and Genelia is directed by 'Jayam' Raja. The team is currently traveling to Ladhak for a ten day shoot schedule. Ladhak and its naturally scenic beauty has always called for 'n' number of shoots from the film industry, within and outside our country.
 
Meanwhile, post-production work has started side-by-side, and is going at a brisk pace.
 
Also, Kollywood grapevine is abuzz that 'Velayudham' will see an audio launch by mid-July, we must remember that the movie was launched in mid-July as well, it went on floors by July 15, 2010 and the audio launch will be in mid-July this year!
 
'Velayudham' sees Vijay as a villager, who comes to the city to withdraw the money he has invested in a chit fund company, where shock awaits him as he understands that he has been cheated. Circumstances throw him into donning the role of superhero Velayudham, a character sketched by Genelia in the film. While Genelia plays a TV journalist, Hansika Motwani plays Vijay's love interest.

Vijay-Deepika Padukone Pair Together For A R Murugadoss film

It's almost official, that Vijay will start working with A R Murugadoss after completing work with 'Velayudham' and 'Nanban'. And to play heroine, the team seems to have approached Deepika Padukone, who is making her K-town debut through Superstar Rajinikanth-starrer, 'Rana'. However, we can't be sure if Deepika will give her nod for this flick as 'Rana' will soon go on floors keeping her busy.


"Both Vijay and Murugadoss wanted to work together for a longtime now and it is becoming reality now. The film will be in typical style of Murugadoss and at the same time will satisfy Vijay fans," say sources.


While the actor is currently busy shooting for 'Velayudham' and 'Nanban', the director is giving finishing touches to '7am Arivu', the Suriya-starrer. "The Vijay-Murugadoss combo will start their new venture by the end of this year," they add.


Buzz is that Muruagadoss has politely turned down an offer to direct Akshay Kumar for a Hindi film, for the sake of this Vijay-starrer. In the meantime, the director is also busy with his maiden production venture 'Engeyum Eppodhum'.

Nanban To Wrap Up By August?

If what we heard from the closer sources is believed to be true, then here is something that will send us into a vivid astonishment. Yeah, it is all about the progression of ‘Nanban’ shooting as Shankar is taking no breaks between each schedule. Much before there were some issues pertaining to the lead actor of the project was to be confirmed; he finished canning portions involving other characters in Ooty.

Once everything was set on tracks, there has been no stopping for the entire team. The recent photo promos blatantly revealed that Shankar is done with almost all the major portions of the film including a climax that was shot in Andaman Islands.

Some of the unit members have mentioned that if the shooting is taken on a full-stretch from now, it will be completed by August. It is worth mentioning that Shankar has added many new scenes from the original script that has 109 scenes altogether. Yet, he is effortlessly taking it ahead as he said in one of his interactions, ‘Nanban is completely in contrast to Endhiran’.

Ilayathalapathy Vijay gets a call from Gautham Menon & A.R.Murugadoss

Lady Luck seems to smiling on Actor Vijay these days. He is currently working with maverick Director Shankar, who is directing him in Nanban and has bagged an offer to star in a flick that Gautham Menon is to direct.

However, this project will go on floors only in March 2012, as Gautham is already committed to direct Actor Jeeva this year. In the mean time, Vijay will complete Nanban. With Gautham Menon having so much to concentrate in, his planned Vinnaithaandi Varuvaya Part 2 may be put in the backburner for now.

The grapevine also has it that Vijay will work on a film with AR Murugadoss soon after completing Shankar’s Nanban. Vijay’s dad and director S. A. Chandrasekhar will produce the AR Murugadoss venture.

Velayudham is the second film for me with Vijay, first being Udhaya. There is a general feel that Vijay is reserved and does not talk much. But when you work with him, you realize that Vijay is a wonderful friend. We can talk on any subject with him.

I have worked with Sivaji Ganesan sir in Bandham and I know about the punctuality of the legend. I see the same trait in Vijay and he walks into the set at least 15 minutes before the scheduled time. And Vijay is also a perfectionist. Be it comedy or action, they come naturally to Vijay. All in all, it was easy working in Velayudham. 

VIJAY'S NEXT PROJECT WITH A.R.MURUGADOSS

With Ilaya Thalapathy Vijay gearing up to celebrate his birthday in a big way today (June 22), here is DC giving you a sneak peek at his next fascinating project.

According to tinsel town buzz, post Kaavalan, Vijay, who was part of a planned strategy to move away from commercial cocktails and join hand...s with sensible filmmakers like Shankar, will be teaming up with none other than gen-next director Murugadoss for the first time.

Reliable K’town sources claim that Murugadoss, who’s busy with the postproduction work of his highly- anticipated Suriya starrer 7 Aum Arivu, met Vijay recently and narrated a one-line summary of his script.

A source said that the Nanban star, immensely pleased, has given the go-ahead to the Ghajini director. And hold your breath; Murugadoss is said to have Bollywood biggie Sonam Kapoor in mind to play opposite Vijay.

Nirav Shah is the cinematographer and sources say talks are on with Harris Jayaraj for the music. Grapevine has it that Murugadoss has been signed for a massive, undisclosed amount.

Though there’s mixed info on who would produce the big budget venture, it is said that Vijay’s dad SA Chandrashekaran and Aascar Ravichandran (who is presently producing the actor’s movie Velayudham) would jointly produce it.

Either that or SAC will produce it on first-copy basis for Mumbai-based Fox Star Studios.

Meanwhile, our Thalapathy has urged his fans from Narpani Iyakkam to donate their eyes on his birthday, apart from the regular charity works that are normally conducted on the occasion.

Vijay as a cop in Pagalavan

Looks like the Seeman – Vijay duo is keen on starting ‘Pagalavan’ right after Vijay finishes up with ‘Nanban,’ a multi-starrer under Shankar’s direction.


We had earlier told you the script consisted of a doctor Vijay, who plays the role of Pugazhendi and serves the poor in a village and then fights a mafia who deals with expired medicines.


But now, Seeman has brought about certain changes in ‘Pagalavan’s script, making it a whole-new-package altogether!
This new aspect will show a young Vijay fighting for a cause, against the privatization of certain sectors by the Government. ‘Pagalavan’ will see a rough-tough war between Vijay who is a doctor and a police officer.  And during these fights, Vijay realizes he can do better for the common man if he is a part of the police force.


He then studies IPS, rises to power as a police official in the society and puts an end to the mafia who is dealing with expired medicines.

So yes, Vijay dons the avatar of a doctor and later a police officer in ‘Pagalavan.’ We must remember that Vijay’s earlier movie where he played a cop - ‘Pokkiri’ was a blockbuster.

LATEST UPDATE ON NANBAN

Vijay, Jiiva, and Ileana are currently shooting for Nanban in Chennai. They are scheduled to work in the city for another week and then the next leg of the shoot will commence. Director Shankar intends to shoot the songs next. Word is that the unit will fly to Spain to shoot the songs in some of the country's hot spots.


Shankar has modified the script to suit Tamil sensibilities, so those who have already seen 3 Idiots will find a few surprises. Nanban is slotted for a Diwali release and it is hoped that work will be wrapped up by then.


Insiders have said that Vijay's performance in this film is simply superb as he has slipped into his character completely. Also, he is looking fitter and fresher than ever. The other surprise package is supposed to be Sathyaraj and the buzz is this film will be yet another milestone in his career.

Salman and Vijay get together For an Audio launch

Bollywood star Salman Khan will arrive to Chennai in a chartered flight this evening to grace the audio release function of Markandeyan. Salman will release the first copy of the CD and Vijay will receive it from him. This film is directed by FEFSI Vijayan and stars his son Sabarish in the lead role.


According to Vijayan, having worked with Salman in several Hindi films including Dabangg, he enjoys a good rapport with the star. And when he requested him to grace the occasion and shower his blessings on Sabarish, who is making his acting debut with Markandeyan, Salman gladly agreed.


Salman will return to Mumbai on the very same day after the function is wrapped up.

Velayudham audio launch on July 5

Here we bring you the confirmed date of much awaited audio of the season Vijay’s Velayudham. For the past couple of months we hearing different dates of the audio release but the latest confirmed date of the audio launch is July 5th, 2011.

While most of the previous films of Vijay turned out to be box office duds, he had a life-saving jacket through the film ‘Kaavalan’. The actor has now strode back to his top position and is keeping everyone excited on his upcoming films ‘Velayudham’ and ‘Nanban’.

Vijay’s previous film ‘Kaavalan’ was screened at Shangai International Film Festival and the response was incredulously tremendous.
